For those of us who do not live in places where all round year trout fishing is illegal winter is generally very long. Hopefully some people who have the opportunity to fish for trout during winter time share some of their videos on the web!

TENKARA POR EL PIRINEO
Tenkara is spreading worldwide more and more as more and more anglers get interested in this simple and very effective fly fishing technique originating from Japan. It is always good to see anglers trying to experience something else than western fly fishing.

I think that in a close future we will watch tenkara fishing videos from countries we would even put on the map of fly fishing.
Today I share what is, I think, the first tenkara fishing video from the Pyrenean mountains in Spain.

TENKARA
Contrarily to what some seem to think Tenkara did not resurrect, or not thanks to them, but there has been a transition area between the end of commercial fishing and the rise of Tenkara as a hobby.
One European country has been ahead of others in the rediscovery of ancient fixed line fishing techniques. Italy is probably the only European country where fixed line fly fishing techniques never extinguished and that is probably why the Italians have been pioneers in western Tenkara.
For those unfamiliar with these videos I think that they were the very first released outside of Japan about the fishing technique that brings us together on this blog: TENKARA.

TSURIKICHI SANPEI
Perhaps some of you remember the manga that was boradcasted at the end of the 1980's but probably not many of you have heard about the 2009 motion picture directed by Yoijro Takita adapted from the manga.
I hope that you like original version movies. Perhaps the manga readers will recognize on which manga volume this story is based.

THE CADOWACHI
I have met Yuu Cadowachi on facebook a few months ago and I have to say that every time he releases a new tying video I am amazed by the simple beauty of his ties.
I am really pleased to share some of his videos today, they are really worth.

TFJ: TENKARA FRIULI JIG
The video I share today is a part of a post from the Tenkara Friuli blog which is a very interesting publication with very good articles and videos. The editor of this blog is like me an Oni rod aficionado and a very good connoisseur of the Japanese tenkara scene.
This video shows in details the tying of a very interesting sakasa kebari for sasoi as it seems that this fly can literally swing in the water.
Watch this video and make your opinion!

Dripping Cave Tenkara
I have just watched this new video released by Brian, editor of Tenkara Elevated blog, and I have liked it enough to share it on my own blog!
This simple video demonstrates brilliantly that tenkara fishing is more effective if the angler does not bring useless complications in it.

NEVADA SMALL STREAM TENKARA FISHING
Since the salmonid fishing season is closed in most of European countries and in Japan the number of tenkara fishing videos released on the web has drastically decreased. Hopefully our American tenkara fellows still have the possibility to go fishing and share their videos with us.
Today's clip is released by Paul Gibson. You only have to click on the arrow and enjoy...Enjoy!

TENKARA BUM
We all know the Tenkara Bum website as Chris Stewart has been a very active Tenkara ambassador in the U.S and generally in the west but the man himself remains unknown by many.
A few days ago a video was released with Chris about his Tenkara. I really enjoyed this few minutes during which Chris let us know a bit more about his Tenkara.

OKUTONE TENKARA FISHING
Jun Yossy has posted a new video and as usual I did spend a good moment watching it. Today's film is about tenkara on a Okutone lake tributary and it is a very good example (once again) of the total uselessness of false casts that one can reach if he uses a balanced rod/line/kebari ensemble.
I hope that some of you will like this video!

TENKARA - VOM HIMMEL SCHWEBEND
Rest assured, TENKARA ENSO does not switch to german language!
Today's video comes from Switzerland, a very discreet country in all areas including fishing.
I will let each of you make his own opinion about this video, I share it because it demonstrates that Tenkara is spreading across and that is what counts. Some will stay, some will leave. Time will tell.

TENRYU FURAIBO
I had done a blog post about this rod in March and this morning I had the good surprise to watch the first video with this rod in action. I really liked it, it is done simply, just for the fun of it: like any Tenkara video should be done in my opinion.
This rod was released in Japan in spring 2014 and will be available in the West soon!

Tenkara Rod Co. | The Owyhee Rod
The Tenkara Rod Co. range of rods has a new member which bears the name of a river flowing through Nevada, Idaho and Oregon: the Owyhee.
It was an opportunity to release a new video!

TENKARA-NO-ONI KNOTS
I often receive mails from tenkara starters about the knots to be used to link the line to the rod, the tippet to the line and the fly to the tippet. This question often comes with lo-fi pictures or incomprehensible diagrams and I thought it was time for an adequate response.
This adequate, clear and definitive response was given by Masami Sakakibara aka Tenkara-no-Oni...

DISCOVERING TENKARA Vol. 1
A few days ago I did a post on this blog for the launch of this DVD, in fact I had ordered my copy when you did read the post! It took a few days to get it in my mailbox and I have to say I was checking it every morning...It is a historical event though: the first DVD totally dedicated to Tenkara to be released outside of Japan.
After a few days wait the parcel was finally in my hands but due to lack of free time I had to content myself of a few snatches each day but today I wanted to enjoy this afternoon off and entirely watch this DVD whose I expect a lot...
Disclaimer: I did write this post from my couch at my own risk so thanks for your understanding!

This documentary is 44 minutes long and as soon as I have pressed the "PLAY"button I have literally immersed in it.
The menu encompasses all the aspects of Tenkara, from history to casting via kebari tying. Nothing has been forgotten. Each explanation by Paul Gaskell, John Pearson and Hisao Ishigaki is perfectly clear, there are also strokes of humor which is not a bad thing in something serious like fishing. I expected a lot from this DVD and I must say that I really do not regret my purchase because everything contained on this disc was thought and made to reach perfection. One can feel the passion of the three protagonists in every moment of this film.
Like other DVD this one features bonus, two in number for a period of 25 minutes.
The first one is about stream side hand tie of a kebari and fishing with it. The second bonus deals with the very interesting topic that is spotting sub surface takes. Thanks to slow motion replays and simple explanations this sequence demonstrates that the average angler can easily miss more trouts than he thinks he does. That is one of the thing Tenkara helped me to realize last season.
On the whole I am totally satisfied by this documentary not only because it fills a gap in the Tenkara scene but because it features all the qualities that an excellent fly fishing film should have. Everything in this deals with simplicity, efficiency, technique and common sense.
Having watched tons of fly fishing documentaries these last years I can write that as a spectator this DISCOVERING TENKARA is truly different of anything released until now.
This masterpiece is without a doubt destined to become a cherished collector for the Tenkara enthusiasts who will, like me, watch it from time to time while waiting for the launch of Vol. 2!
